SOUND
SYSTEMS
The sound system is the beating heart of Ruapuke Royale—a custom-built vessel for culture, connection, and heavy bass weight. Drawing on the deep lineage of Jamaican sound system tradition and Aotearoa’s unique sonic identity, these rigs are more than just speakers; they are gathering points where frequency meets whanaungatanga. You can read more about sound system culture here.
We are proud to present two distinct handcrafted systems that will power the dance and set the vibration for our time together. From the warm, analogue soul of DIY craftsmanship to the spiritual focus of conscious selection, these crews, the selectors and emcees, are here to ensure the message is felt as much as it is heard.
Fish & Bread
Fish & Bread is a reggae sound system, hand built in the tradition of UK and Jamaican sound operators. Each speaker box and frequency is carefully designed to faithfully reproduce the energy and spirit of the music.
Fish & Bread Sound System is not your typical PA, but instead operated by it’s selectors Vaughan Unity & Pierre Jewellers, and featured guests that carry the same musical direction and philosophy.
Together we draw from the deep catalogues of dub, roots and reggae music, selecting and manipulating tunes on the fly with the sole aim of building a vibe that connects us all together, to move as one family.
Armed with a diverse selection of dubplates and exclusives, including those from our brother label
Deep Bow Records, Fish & Bread brings a unique sound that you cant hear anywhere else.
Bigbada Boom
Aotearoa’s only femme fronted, custom-built reggae sound system, Bigbada Boom. Staying true to Jamaican and UK sound system roots. From ska, reggae, roots & dub, to dancehall and rub-a-dub, Bigbada brings heavy bass and timeless vibes straight to the people.
Built from D.I.Y. and upcycled speakers, each part carries its own story and soul, delivering a warm, fat sound wrapped in playful visuals. Bigbada Boom isn’t just a sound system, it is a living and breathing thing.
“Bigbada’s not the biggest. Bigbada’s not the loudest. Bigbada’s the funnest!”
Fronted by Queen Big Punch in collaboration with The Boil House Furniture / Design & Roadshow Productions.
